🕯 How to Care for Your Candle (So It’ll Love You Back)

🕯 How to Care for Your Candle (So It’ll Love You Back)

Ah, candles — beautifully scented, hand-poured with love, and full of flickering joy. But let’s be honest… Treat them right, and they’ll burn bright. Treat them wrong, and you’ll end up with a sad tunnel of wax and a barely-there scent. Tragic.

So here’s our ultimate guide to candle care, sprinkled with a bit of humour and a lot of love. You’re welcome.

🔥 1. First Burn = Most Important Burn

This one’s not a drill. The first time you light your candle, let it burn until the entire top layer melts from edge to edge — usually around 2 to 4 hours depending on the size.

Why? Because wax has a memory (weird, right?), and if you blow it out too soon, it’ll always burn down that sad little tunnel like a scented black hole.

💡 Commit to that first burn like it's the first episode of a new Netflix series.

✂️ 2. Trim Your Wick. Always.

Before each burn, trim your wick to around minimum 5mm.

Why? A long or crooked wick = high flames, smoke, and soot. Not cute. A trimmed wick gives you a cleaner, slower, more even burn.

🕯 3. Burn Smart, Not Long

Keep your candle burning for no more than 4 hours at a time.

Why? Because after that, the wick gets tired.  It’ll start to mushroom, smoke, and throw a tantrum.

🛑 Extinguish. Rest. Repeat.

🏠 4. No Drafts, No Drama

Burn your candle in a room free from strong drafts, fans, or windows wide open.

Why? Wind messes with the flame, causes uneven burning, and your candle ends up looking like it partied too hard.

🌬 Let the fragrance do the movement, not the flame.

♻️ 5. Refill, Reuse & Save

We love a second chance — and so do our jars!

Once your candle is finished, you can exchange your empty jar for a refilled version at a discounted price. Bring your undamaged jar to us at:
🖤 Busstop 7 Open Air Market (every weekend)
🖤 Boeremark in Pretoria
🖤 Our studio in Noordheuwel, Krugersdorp

Please note: We only accept jars that are clean, unchipped, unscratched, and in good condition. Think of it like a return policy for candles — no candle deserves a broken home.

It’s good for the planet, and your pocket!

Final Words of Wisdom:

Candles are like good relationships — they need attention, care, and a bit of trimming now and then. Treat them well, and they’ll reward you with hours of beautiful light and luxury fragrance.

So go forth, candle lover. Burn safely, burn smart, and enjoy every scented second.
